Belgium attacker Jeremy Doku was not included in the side’s playing eleven for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group G match against Iran in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was ruled out for the second round game due to a respiratory infection, the commentator on the official broadcast announced during the game.

The Manchester City forward sparked an online debate recently, after reports emerged that he will leave the Belgium squad mid-way through the World Cup due to the birth of his child.

The decision divided opinions with some criticising Doku for abandoning his team while others backed the Belgian star’s decision.
