Double Paralympic champion Sumit Antil bettered his own World Record in men’s javelin throw F64 event on Wednesday during the 8th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship in Bengaluru.

Antil, in his fifth attempt, recorded a throw of 74.82m to rewrite the mark. His previous mark stood at 73.29m, which he had recorded during the 2022 Para Asian Games.

He got into the groove with a 70.30m fourth attempt, before reserving his best for the fifth try. The Haryana athlete dominated the nine-man field and took the gold medal, with Maharashtra’s Sandip Sargar taking silver with 62.88m.

Last year, Antil clinched his third-consecutive gold medal at the World Para Athletics Championships in this event.

Earlier this year, he clinched the top spot at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in New Delhi, winning the (F43/F44/F64) event with a best of 69.25m.
