Argentine legend Lionel Messi will make his 200th international appearance during his side’s FIFA World Cup 2026 opener against Algeria in Kansas on Wednesday.
Messi is now only the third player to reach the 200-match landmark in international football, after Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (228) and Kuwait’s Bader Al-Mutawa (202).
He made his international debut in 2005, at the age of 18. From 199 games, Messi has tallied 117 goals.
The 38-year-old has won three major titles with Argentina – FIFA World Cup in 2022 and the Copa America in 2021 and 2024.
Messi also won the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball in 2014 and 2022.
