Kylian Mbappe was denied a penalty during the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between France and Senegal in New Jersey on Tuesday.
The French forward was brought down in the Senegal box on the right wing in the 60th minute after a tackle by Sadio Mane.
However, after a Video Assistant Referee check, the referee Aireza Faghani did not award a penalty to France and stated, “the contact was initiated by the attacker.”
The decision was not taken well by the France team. Mbappe gave a wry smile while head coach Didier Deschamps was seen arguing with the fourth official.
