Germany came from behind against Ivory Coast and won 2-1 in its Group E match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Toronto on Saturday.
Deniz Undav was the player who led the turnaround and scored two goals after coming on from the bench in the 60th minute.
The Die Mannschaft now have six points from two games, having blasted to a 7-1 win in its opening game against Curacao.
The victory sealed Germany’s passage to the knockouts. It became the third team after co-hosts Mexico and USA to reach the next round.
The qualification ends the four-time champion’s 12-year wait for World Cup knockouts after it was eliminated from the group stages in the previous two editions.
It faces Ecuador in the final round and a win would assure it of a top spot. If the other results go its way, Germany could top Group E even with a draw against Ecuador.
If Ecuador beats Curacao and then defeats Germany as well, the two teams could end up with six points and Germany will finish second in its group, leaving it with a slightly tougher path ahead in the tournament.
