Jhon Arias scored twice as Colombia defeated Jordan 2-0 in San Diego on Sunday, completing its World Cup preparations with a comfortable victory.
The Palmeiras midfielder opened the scoring in the 41st minute after being played through by James Rodríguez. Arias initially lost control of the ball but quickly recovered and calmly slotted past Jordan goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila.
He doubled Colombia’s advantage 10 minutes into the second half, heading home an excellent cross from Santiago Arias to seal the result.
Jordan struggled to create meaningful opportunities throughout the contest and finished the match with 10 men after midfielder Amer Jamous was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.
The victory was Colombia’s second in succession after a 3-1 win over Costa Rica earlier this month, providing further encouragement ahead of the World Cup.
Having missed out on qualification for the 2022 World Cup, Colombia begins its Group K campaign against Uzbekistan in Mexico City on June 17.
Jordan opens its tournament in Group J against Austria at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on June 16.
