Javokhir Sindarov and R. Vaishali were crowned champions of the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2026 after a gruelling 14-round contest spread across two weeks.
The venue that doubled as their base through the tournament — and, in many ways, a silent partner in their journey — chose to mark the moment in a lasting way.
At the closing ceremony on Thursday, Panayiotis Markou, Director of Sales and Marketing at Cap St. Georges Hotel & Resort in Paphos, announced that the rooms occupied by Vaishali and Sindarov would be renamed in their honour — turning a temporary stay into a permanent tribute.
“We have decided that the rooms in which they stayed during this special period of competition will bear their names from now on.
“This will be our tribute to their success and a lasting connection between their achievements and the tournament,” he said.
