India’s Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy retired from their men’s doubles first-round match against Malaysia’s Aaron Tai and Kang Khai Xing in the Indonesia Open 2026 on Wednesday.

Satwik was seen pointing to his right shoulder on court. The 25-year-old had been struggling with a shoulder niggle, which forced the pair out of the Badminton Asia Championship earlier this year.

Satwik and Chirag were trailing their Malaysian opponents 6-11 in the first game before the resignation.

“The pair will now focus on recovery and rehabilitation as they prepare for the important tournaments ahead. We wish Satwik a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing the duo back on court soon,” announced the Badminton Association of India.

Last week, the Indian duo had claimed their first title in two years by winning the Singapore Open. Satwik and Chirag had last lifted a trophy at the Thailand Open in 2024. Since then, they had reached four finals but finished runners-up on each occasion before finally breaking the drought in Singapore.
