Canada pulled off its first win in the FIFA World Cup with a 6-0 victory over Qatar in their Group B match at the Vancouver Stadium in Canada on Thursday.

Cyle Larin, who had equalised against Bosnia and Herzegovina, opened the scoring for Les Rouges here as well, while Jonathan David struck a to keep Canada 3-0 up at half-time.

Nathan Saliba came off the bench to score from a stunning free-kick, while Mohammed Al Mannai’s own goal only made matters worse for the Asian champion, which remained outnumbered almost throughout the game, having received two red cards.

In second-half stoppage time, David found the net again to complete his hat-trick and level the 96-year-old record held by Bert Patenaude of being a North American to score a hat-trick in the FIFA World Cup.
