India created history on Friday after it qualified for the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup quarterfinals for the first time in history.
The Young Tigresses defeated Lebanon 4-0 in a must-win clash before the Group C match between Philippines and Chinese Taipei ended in their favour to confirm their spot in the last eight.
In the quarterfinals, the Pamela Conti-coached will face China, which was the runner-up in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2005.
How can India qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026?
The four semifinalists at the Asian Cup will book their spots at this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Morocco between October and November.
Therefore, India will need to beat China in the quarterfinals to ensure it qualifies for the World Cup.
The only time India played in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was in 2022, when it hosted the event. The side exited in the group stage.
