Brazil’s Matheus Cunha put his side in control against Haiti in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C game with a first-half brace.
Cunha scored the opening goal of the match in the 24th minute by bundling in a rebound. He added a second with a powerful left-footed finish just 12 minutes later.
The Manchester United forward is on the verge of breaking a long-standing duck. It has been 68 years since a Brazilian scored a hat-trick in the World Cup.
Footballing legend Pele is the last Brazilian to score a World Cup hat-trick.
He scored an iconic treble against France in the 1958 semifinal as a 17-year-old. Pele is still the youngest player to score a World Cup hat-trick.
Only two other Brazilians have scored a World Cup hat-trick – Ademir (1950) and Leonidas (1938).
