Iran shut Belgium out for the entire Group G match in the FIFA World Cup 2026 but could not make use of its one-man advantage and settled for 0-0 draw in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Mehdi Taremi found the net in the 25th minute from an improvised set piece but had it ruled out for offside. Iranian custodian Alireza Beiranvand made multiple saves to deny Belgium its opener.

Nathan Ngoy was sent off late in the second half for his infringement on Taremi, who was through on goal, but Belgium avoided the blushes and kept its clean sheet.

Both teams now have two points from as many games with Belgium facing New Zealand and Iran taking on Egypt in the final round.

Iran is still in the reckoning to reach the round of 32, which would make it its first knockouts qualification.
