Lamine Yamal became the second-youngest World Cup debutant for Spain when he came on against Cape Verde at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia on Monday.
Yamal, 18, is only behind teammate Gavi, who made his World Cup bow in Qatar 2022, aged 18 years and 110 days, against Costa Rica.
The Barcelona forward was only fit enough to make the bench after he suffered a groin injury in April.
Yamal is the youngest player to represent Spain and score for the country aged 16. He starred in Spain’s European Championship success the following year in 2024.
