Former Southampton and Nigerian footballer Victor Udoh was reportedly found dead at the age of 21 in Abuja, in mysterious circumstances, according to local media reports in Africa.
Udoh spent seven months at Southampton’s academy from February to September 2025, playing eight games for the club’s under-21 side in Premier League 2. He scored two goals during his time at the club, helping it to the Premier League 2 playoff final in the 2024-25 season.
“Southampton Football Club is devastated by the tragic passing of our former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time,” the EFL Championship club said in a statement.
Udoh previously played for Antwerp’s academy in 2023, playing 21 times for their ‘Young Reds’ team and scoring 12 goals. He went on to make his first team debut in the same season.
“Our thoughts are with Victor’s family, friends, and loved ones. We wish them much strength, support, and warmth during this particularly difficult time. Rest in peace, Victor,” the Belgian club said in a statement.
Udoh had recently returned to Nigeria following the end of his spell with Czech club Dynamo České Budějovice, which he joined after leaving Southampton in 2025.
