The United States of America recorded its joint-biggest FIFA World Cup win during its Group D opener against Paraguay at the Sofi Stadium in California on Saturday.
An own goal from defender Damian Bobadilla and a brace from striker Folarin Balogun put the co-host 3-0 up at half-time against the South American side. Paraguay eventually pulled one back in the second half before Giovanni Reyna scored late to complete a 4-1 win.
USA’s biggest win at the quadrennial event came in the first edition of the tournament in 1930, where the side beat Belgium and Paraguay 3-0 in Montevideo.
