Cape Verde achieved a historic first World Cup knockout berth on Friday after it held onto a 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia in a Group H clash at the Houston Stadium.
With Spain beating Uruguay in the other Group H game, Cape Verde finished second to qualify automatically for the Round of 32.
Interestingly, the 67th ranked team in the world did not win a single game in the group stages after successive draws against Spain and Uruguay in its opening two games.
Cape Verde will now take on defending champion Argentina in the Round of 32 on July 3 at the Miami Gardens.
The 2026 edition is Cape Verde’s first-ever World Cup appearance in its seventh attempt at qualification.
