Booking.com has notified an undisclosed number of customers about a potential data breach, warning that their personal and reservation information may have been compromised. The company confirmed that unauthorized third parties might have gained access to booking details, including customer names, email addresses, and phone numbers.

Suspicious Activity and Compromised Data

In an email sent to affected customers, Booking.com mentioned that the breach was discovered after detecting “suspicious activity” related to a number of reservations. While the full extent of the incident remains unclear, the compromised data appears to be linked to the information provided during the booking process. The notification has also been shared by concerned customers on platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter).

This incident follows a pattern of threat actors targeting customer data in the travel and hospitality industry. Similar breaches have been reported in the past, where attackers exploit vulnerabilities to access sensitive user information. For example, a recent data breach at Basic-Fit also highlighted the risks associated with storing personal information.

Booking.com’s Response and Security Measures

In response to the breach, Booking.com has taken immediate steps to secure the affected accounts. The company announced that it has reset the PIN codes associated with the compromised reservations to prevent unauthorized access. Customers are advised to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity to the platform.

The incident underscores the importance of robust security measures in protecting customer data.
