Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is understood to be dissatisfied with the scathing report issued by the National Commission for Women (NCW) on the Nashik sexual harassment case, particularly with respect to the company’s compliance measures, as per sources aware of the matter.
On Monday night, the NCW put out a press note that not only stated huge compliance oversight by the IT services company but called for strict action for its failure to adhere to employer obligations under the POSH Act. The 3-page press note – citing a 50-page investigation report by the NCW – spread like wildfire over the internet with politicians like Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi flagging the findings and decrying the company’s conduct.
Meanwhile, the company itself has refrained from any official comment on the latest development. As per sources, TCS has not received the detailed report and intends to write to the NCW accordingly. businessline reached out to the NCW for the report but has not received a response as of the time of publishing.
Meanwhile, sources say the company plans to contest particular claims like non-functioning CCTVs, lack of complaints committee member details in the public forum.
Aside from the police and NCW investigations, TCS is also conducting its own internal investigation led by Chief Operating Officer Aarthi Subramanian. The internal report is expected to be ready by the end of May, as per sources.
In April, the Nagpur police arrested accused Tausif Attar, Danish Sheikh, Shahrukh Qureshi, Raza Memon, Ashwini Chainani, Shafi Sheikh, Aasif Ansari and most recently Nida Khan based on nine FIRs alleging sexual assault, harassment, injury to religious sentiment and religious coercion between July 2022 and March 2026. One survivor also alleged false promises of marriage by one of the accused. Regarding teh charges, the NCW asked that the police charge for abuse of authority to induce or seduce or coerce a woman on top of other charges already filed. Further, it asked that the complainants also be protected from undue media intrusion and anti-social elements.
