The Election Commission has taken actions against 11,000 social media posts for violating the model code of conduct (MCC) and presenting misleading or unlawful content since the announcement of polls in March, the Central agency said in a post on X.

“In the ongoing elections for legislative assemblies of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, social media content such as posts violating MCC, which disrupt or have the potential to disrupt law and order, false narratives against polling process or machinery are being monitored and acted upon by the concerned State IT Nodal Officers notified under the IT Act,” the commission added.

It also reiterated that political parties are prohibited to display any election matter for the 48-hour silence period prior to the conclusion of the poll, while also instructing parties to label AI-generated or altered content explicitly.

Meanwhile, the post also said that the commission has received 3,23,099 complaints in the period since the election was announced, 96 per cent of which were resolved in the stipulated time period of 100 minutes.
