IPL Biologicals Ltd on Thursday inaugurated Phase-I of its proposed ₹400 crore biological manufacturing facility in Vadodara, as the company ramps up production of biofertilisers and biopesticides amid growing policy push to reduce chemical fertiliser usage in Indian agriculture.

The first phase of the project, built with an investment of around ₹200 crore, has commissioned a 50 kilolitres (KL) per day production facility, which will primarily manufacture biofertilisers and biopesticides. The company plans to double capacity to 100 KL per day under Phase-II.

“In Phase-I, a 50 KL per day facility for biofertilisers and biopesticides has been commissioned. Roughly 60 per cent of the production will be biofertilisers and the remaining will be biopesticides. Once Phase-II is completed, capacity will go up to 100 KL per day,” Harsh Vardhan Bhagchandka, President of IPL Biologicals, told the businessline.

Near-zero Human Intervention

The promoters are funding the ₹400 crore expansion, he added. The Vadodara facility is spread across 12 acres with a built-up area of around 2 lakh sq ft. IPL Biologicals said the facility features automated manufacturing systems with near-zero human intervention and SCADA-controlled process monitoring. The plant also operates with a zero-liquid discharge (ZLD) system and generates 500 kW of captive solar power.

The company currently operates an existing fermentation capacity of 30,000 KL per day in Uttarakhand and is now looking to aggressively expand exports. “In the next two years, we are targeting exports to contribute 5 per cent of turnover. We want to take that to 40 per cent over the next 10 years,” Bhagchandka said. Exports contributed around 2 per cent of the company’s FY26 turnover of ₹285 crore.

Large Portfolio

The company said its biological products help reduce dependence on chemical inputs while improving crop productivity. Bhagchandka said the products can deliver a minimum 15–35 per cent increase in crop yields depending on crop and soil conditions. IPL Biologicals currently serves over 45 million farmers across 27 countries through a network of more than 8,000 distributors. The company has a portfolio of over 90 products developed by a team of more than 50 scientists, and holds 19 patents with another 37 patent applications under process.
