Former Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran along with his son Karan Dayanidhi Maran is getting set to launch a new digital entertainment business.
businessline has learnt that the venture is will be in a new format, not explored before in Tamil entertainment sector, and will be smartphone-led in line with latest trends around content consumption. The business is set for an official launch as early as end of the current month, sources said.
Mobile First
Dayanidhi Maran is said to have set up a new company Maran Group that brings together diverse businesses under one umbrella. The first venture rolling out of the stable is set to be a mobile-led streaming platform. Sources said that it will be in the form of a niche streaming platform, which, among other content, will focus on shorter dramas, a format fast catching the imagination of the audience.
The venture will be spearheaded by Executive Director Karan Dayanidhi Maran along with Dayanidhi Maran as Chairman and media executive Mohamed Israth as Group CEO, sources said. Karan Maran is the founder of Cloutgency, Kadhai Shorts, KKIX Customs, and CHA Wellness, and his ventures span digital marketing, media storytelling, automotive lifestyle culture, and wellness.
Dayanidhi Maran did not elaborate on businessline’s queries, but confimed that his son was involved in a new venture.
New beginning
The entry of Dayanidhi Maran and his family in the entertainment business is significant given the events that unfolded last year when Dayanidhi and his brother Kalanithi got into a legal battle over stake in entertainment company Sun TV Network.
Dayanidhi had then sent a legal notice to his elder brother and Chairman of Sun TV Network Kalanithi Maran and others, raising dispute in share transactions . The feud was later settled by way of a mediation in the presence of key members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) including MK Stalin.
