Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged the Centre to establish a greenfield steel plant at Bayyaram in the State and an Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub.

Currently on a visit to New Delhi, Reddy met Union Minister for Steel and Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy and Minister of State for Steel Bhupathi Srinivas Varma on Saturday to press the demand.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said the proposed plant would be `strategic’ in addressing domestic steel shortages while aligning with environmental objectives. It was also important for the State’s broader industrial vision under the “Telangana Rising – 2047” roadmap.

Reddy further sought the Centre’s support to set up a steel recycling facility in Telangana, leveraging scrap from end-of-life vehicles.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s industrial ecosystem, he said the city has the potential to emerge as a key hub for achieving national manufacturing targets, given its technological base, established heavy industries, and conducive business environment.

The Chief Minister also pitched for the establishment of an electric vehicle (EV) battery manufacturing hub in Hyderabad, citing the rapid growth in EV adoption. He reiterated the State’s goal of transforming Hyderabad into a pollution-free city by 2034 and sought Central assistance for accelerating the transition to electric mobility.

Additionally, Reddy requested the setting up of a national-level institution in Hyderabad to impart specialised skills required by emerging industries, according to a release.
