The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has urged the Chief Electoral Officer and the Director General of Police in Tamil Nadu to ensure peaceful vote counting on Monday, citing concerns over potential law and order disturbances.
In a complaint addressed to both authorities, DMK Organisation Secretary RS Bharathi said the party has received ‘credible information’ suggesting that the Bharatiya Janata Party, along with other parties allegedly acting at its instance, may attempt to disrupt proceedings at counting centres during the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections 2026.
The DMK has expressed apprehension that such disruptions could extend beyond counting venues to surrounding areas, including sensitive locations such as party offices, potentially triggering large-scale law and order issues and undermining the conduct of a free and fair electoral process.
The party has called for immediate preventive measures, including adequate deployment of security personnel and close coordination among law enforcement agencies, to ensure peace, public order, and the integrity of the counting process across Tamil Nadu, the letter to the authorities said.
