UP govt raises minimum wages from April 1 after workers’ violent protests

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an interim minimum wage hike of 9 to 21 percent for workers across the state, effective April 1, following recent violent protests in Noida over pay and working conditions. The increase, based on a high-level committee’s recommendations, applies across three regional categories, with the highest rise in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad. Alongside wage revisions, authorities have introduced welfare measures like timely salary payments, bonuses, and safeguards against workplace harassment, while urging workers to maintain peace after over 350 arrests during the unrest.

Sexual harassment case registered against senior officials of Anand Rathi Wealth in Pune

In Pune, a 33-year-old employee of Anand Rathi Wealth has filed a police complaint alleging sexual harassment and intimidation by senior officials, with an FIR registered on April 10 at Shivajinagar Police Station. The complaint names multiple executives and alleges misconduct between May 2024 and April 2026, including forced advances and threats to her career. The woman also claims her internal complaint was ignored and that she was transferred to Dubai as retaliation. Police have begun an investigation into the case.

Women’s quota bill proposes raising Lok Sabha strength from 543 to 850

The Government of India is set to introduce a bill in Parliament to operationalise 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies by increasing the House’s strength from 543 to up to 850 seats. The proposal, which amends Article 81, uses 2011 Census data to redraw constituencies and aims to speed up implementation of the 2023 women’s reservation law. The government will also introduce related bills on delimitation and Union territories to ensure timely rollout of the policy.

Drone hits on Russia ports put Indian refining at risk: IEA

Ukraine’s drone strikes on Russian oil export ports in the Baltic and Black seas could disrupt supplies to India, the world’s third-largest oil importer, according to the International Energy Agency. Key ports like Primorsk, Ust-Luga and Novorossiysk—which account for most of India’s Russian crude imports—have been targeted, raising concerns over refinery operations in the coming weeks. The risk comes as India remains reliant on discounted Russian oil amid global supply disruptions and uncertainty over US sanctions waivers.
