India has extended the LPG cylinder booking interval from 21 to 25 days to curb hoarding and black marketing, while directing refineries to boost output and prioritise domestic consumers.
Officials said petrol and diesel prices are unlikely to rise unless crude oil crosses $130 per barrel, adding that India has sufficient fuel stocks and is exploring additional LPG supplies.

Global crude price rise not to have substantial impact on inflation: Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said rising global crude oil prices are not expected to have a substantial impact on India’s inflation for now, as inflation remains near the lower bound of the RBI’s tolerance band.
She noted the Indian crude basket rose from $69.01 to $80.16 per barrel between end-February and March 2, 2026, following the West Asia conflict.

Social media comes within national jurisdiction: Meity Secy
Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishnan said any proposed state-level ban on social media for children must first be examined for legislative competence, as such issues fall within national jurisdiction.
He added the government is still consulting stakeholders before deciding whether to shorten India’s data protection compliance timeline from 18 months to 12 months.
