AI Impact Summit 2026. Sarvam launches 30B, 105B AI models to rival ChatGPT and Gemini
Sarvam, a Bengaluru-based AI startup, unveiled its new 30B and 105B AI models at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi. Co-founder Pratyush Kumar said the launch shows India can build its own AI for a billion people. The fully India-built models support 22 Indian languages. The 30B model powers chatbots and content tools, while the larger 105B model handles complex reasoning, like analysing balance sheets within seconds. Sarvam also demonstrated its Vikram chatbot running even on feature phones. The company has raised $53.8 million and recently showcased its AI smart glasses, Kaze.

Google unveils India-America sub-sea cable initiative to boost AI connectivity
Sundar Pichai has announced Google’s new “India‑America Connect Initiative,” introducing subsea cable routes to boost AI connectivity between India, the US and regions across the Southern Hemisphere. Building on Google’s $15‑billion AI hub in Vizag, the project aims to strengthen data capacity for AI, cloud services and digital trade. Google will expand upskilling through a new AI professional certificate and partnerships with Wadhwani AI and Karmayogi Bharat to train 20 million public servants. The company also launched a $30‑million AI for Science Impact Challenge. Pichai said India is set for an extraordinary AI trajectory.

DoT directs Navi Mumbai airport to allow telecom companies right of way
The Department of Telecommunications has directed Navi Mumbai International Airport to allow telecom operators to install infrastructure, confirming the airport is a “public entity” under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. Telecom companies have begun test trials as discussions continue with the airport operator. The move follows complaints from COAI that the airport had denied Right of Way and pushed operators toward an expensive in‑building network. Experts warned this could degrade service for large crowds. Similar disputes have occurred at other public facilities like Noida Airport and Mumbai Metro, with industry bodies urging cost caps on in‑building telecom systems.

Yotta to deploy Nvidia’s latest chips with over $2 billion investment
Yotta Data Services and Nvidia will build one of Asia’s largest AI superclusters in India, deploying 20,736 Blackwell Ultra GPUs by August as part of a partnership exceeding $2 billion. Nvidia will also set up a major DGX cloud cluster under a four‑year, $1 billion engagement. With over 10,000 GPUs already live and plans to scale beyond 80,000 by FY27, India is emerging as a major global compute hub. Yotta will allocate 10,000 GPUs to the IndiaAI Mission and expand its Shakti Studio platform with Nvidia’s open models, supporting sovereign AI development at national scale.
