The 2026 mango marketing season has begun on a strong note in Odisha, with the first major domestic linkage seeing 3 tonnes of premium fruit dispatched from Dhenkanal to Siliguri, West Bengal. The consignment was facilitated by Madanmohan Farmer Producer Company (FPC) under the National Cooperative Development Corporation.
The inaugural shipment signals a sharp improvement in farmer earnings, with price realisation rising to ₹45 per kg from ₹25 per kg last year — an increase of about 80 per cent. The early gains are expected to boost farmer confidence at the start of the season.
The initiative is part of the Promotion and Stabilization of Farmer Producer Organizations (PSFPO) programme led by the Directorate of Horticulture under the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment. It is being implemented by Palladium Consulting India Pvt. Ltd., supported by the Gates Foundation, with on-ground assistance from Harsha Trust.
Officials said the quality of mangoes in the first consignment met market expectations, helping strengthen buyer confidence.
Building on last year’s export of over 120 tonnes to more than 11 countries, the programme aims to scale up both domestic and overseas trade. With strong early momentum, Odisha is targeting over 500 tonnes of mango trade this season, signalling a more structured and market-linked ecosystem for farmers.
