Nifty 50 began today’s session with a considerable gap-up at 23,064 compared to yesterday’s close of 22,912. The index appreciated further after opening and is now trading at 23,300, up 1.75 per cent so far.
Barring Tech Mahindra (down 1.2 per cent), all other stocks in Nifty 50 are in the green. Shriram Finance, up 5 per cent, and Trent, up 4.1 per cent, are the top performers.
In addition, all sectors have gained today, which shows broad-based buying. Nifty Realty, up 3.7 per cent, and Nifty Consumer Durables, up 3.4 per cent, are the top gainers.
The March expiry Nifty futures opened today’s session higher at 23,075 versus yesterday’s close of 22,928. It rose after opening and is now trading at 23,300, up nearly 1.7 per cent.
The gap-up open and the strong close of today’s first hour of trade shows that bulls are in control now. Also, the breadth of Nifty 50 supports the positive inclination.
So, the likelihood of further rally from the current level is high. Over the next few sessions, Nifty futures can touch 23,800. Note that 23,000-24,000 is a supply zone and so, there could be a fall after the uptick to these levels.
That said, if the contract starts declining from the current level of 23,300, it can slide to 23,150. A fall below this level is unlikely to happen today.
Buy Nifty futures (March) now at 23,300. Target and stop-loss can be 23,800 and 23,100 respectively. In case neither of these levels are triggered today, traders can carry the position until the end of this week.
Supports: 23,150 and 23,000
Resistance: 23,800 and 24,000
