Telangana government is ready for a dialogue with employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to look into their demand and the proposal for a strike should be withdrawn, State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Tuesday.
Referring to a strike call given by the RTC staff from April 22, 2026 to achieve their demands including the merger of the corporation with the State government, recognition of RTC Labour unions and increase in wages, among others, the Minister said a committee was earlier formed by the previous to look into the matter of merger of the corporation and labour unions issues.
At a time when TGSRTC was on the path of reduction in losses, the idea of strike was in appropriate, the Minister said The government had undertaken many reforms including the introduction of the Mahalakshmi Scheme to provide free travel to women in the State-run buses which increased the revenue of the corporation, he added.
The Provident Fund (PF) dues were reduced by the present Congress government from ₹1,205 crore to ₹600 crore, Prabhakar said.
Apart from introducing 2,978 new buses, the government also gave compassionate appointments to 1,134, he added.
