The auto industry continued the momentum and posted a double-digit growth in passenger vehicles (PVs), three-wheelers and two-wheelers in their domestic wholesales (dispatches to dealers) in April, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said on Thursday.

According to its monthly sales report, the PVs recorded their highest-ever sales of 4,37,312 units in April with a growth of 25.4 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y), over 3,48,847 units in April 2025.

Similarly, two-wheeler sales grew by 28.4 per cent y-o-y to 18,72,691 units during the month against 14,58,784 units in the corresponding month last year.

While, motorcycles sales grew by 30.6 per cent y-o-y to 11,38,452 units during the month (against 8,71,666 units in April 2025), the scooter sales grew by 26.2 per cent y-o-y to 6,91,993 units (against 5,48,370 units in April 2025), the SIAM report indicated.

In the three-wheeler segment, the total domestic sales grew by 32.8 per cent y-o-y to 65,668 units in April as compared with 49,441 units in April 2025.

“Continuing with the momentum of the second half of FY2025-26, the first month of FY2026-27, posted high double-digit growth in PVs, three-wheelers and two-wheelers. In April 2026, the PVs recorded their highest-ever sales of 4.37 lakh units with a growth of 25.4 per cent over April 2025...Though there are concerns of high commodity prices emanating from the disruptions in West Asia, Industry has been witnessing good demand,” Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM, said.
