Prabhjeet Singh has stepped down as President of Uber India and South Asia after an 11-year stint to pursue another leadership opportunity, sources told businessline.

Sources said Uber's India leadership team will continue to manage day-to-day operations, closely supported by the Asia Pacific (APAC) leadership, until a transition is finalized.

Singh’s exit follows a week-long visit to India last month by Uber Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi, who met with senior Cabinet Ministers in New Delhi and visited Mumbai, alongside the company’s tech centres in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Confirming Singh’s resignation, an Uber spokeswoman stated that India remains a crucial driver of innovation and long-term growth.

Key initiatives

During Singh’s tenure, the ride-hailing platform rolled out several key initiatives, including the induction of electric vehicles (EVs) for eco-friendly rides and the launch of Uber Black, its premium mobility offering in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

In January, the company announced plans to double its current fleet size by the end of this year.

According to a report released this year, Indians used Uber more than ever before, with trips spanning over 11.6 billion kilometres in 2025, a 26.5 per cent surge compared to 2024. This translates to over 3.2 million trips from Srinagar to Kanyakumari over the year, or roughly 8,840 daily journeys.

Singh joined Uber in August 2015 from McKinsey & Company, initially leading operations and city expansion before taking the helm as President for India and South Asia in July 2020. In that role, he oversaw business operations across India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
