An association representing travel companies and hotels has renewed the demand for simplification of visa norms and increased promotions to attract foreign tourists into India.
Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH) has made this suggestion in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to Indians to reduce overseas travel.
While the association has welcomed Prime Minister’s sentiment to conserve foreign exchange, it has emphasised on the need to attract more foreign tourists.
“This requires easing visa restrictions, improving connectivity, and significantly strengthening India’s tourism promotion abroad,” said FAITH general secretary Rajiv Mehra.
“It is unfortunate that a country blessed with immense natural beauty, cultural richness, spirituality and world-class historical monuments attracts only around two crore foreign tourists annually. India has the potential to emerge as one of the world’s leading tourism destinations if the right policy support and global marketing efforts are undertaken,” he added.
