Electronics exports emerged among the top three exported goods from India last year and it will grow more in the future, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, said here on Monday.

Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026, Vaishnaw said that until the last decade, diesel used to be India’s single largest exported commodity, but the dynamics are changing now.

“Last financial year, from the traditional exported items — diesel, gems and jewellery, textiles and engineered goods — these are the four largest exported commodities. But, smartphones was the largest exported commodity out of India, and electronics has become among the top three categories for exports. And, this is just the beginning. We also exported about ₹30,000 crore worth of electronics components to our neighbour, which again is a very big change which has happened,” he said.

For electronics components, there are 71 manufacturing facilities across India now, which are going to manufacture many of the components and many of them are in advanced stage of construction, he informed.

“Many components will have 100 per cent of our domestic demand met. Many companies will become part of the global value chain and start exporting to the world. And, I’ve been asking the manufacturers to focus a lot on what we say quality quality, 6 Sigma, lean manufacturing and design inputs to make sure that we can compete with the world over a very long-term, not just for five-six years but build that base which will take us to the Vikshit Bharat,” Vaishnaw added.

On semiconductor manufacturing, he said there are two factories which are already in commercial production and the third factory should start the commercial production in July and the fourth should start somewhere in November or December.

“The world is, as you know, innovating a lot and there are geopolitical challenges that we are facing because of concentration, which is happening in one part of the world. That’s why there is huge innovation which is happening...So there is an opportunity for India to take the lead when the technology is changing. In that inflection point if we enter, then we can take the lead so that’s why we decided to go for micro LED as a technology and I hope, 22 months from now, we should have the first production of micro LED screens coming out our factories,” Vaishnaw added.
