External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is set to host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting on Tuesday, to be attended by his counterparts from the US, Australia and Japan, amid the continuing West Asia crisis.

The Ministers are also likely to set the agenda for the leaders’ summit, a date for which is yet to be announced.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is scheduled to conclude his four-day India visit after attending the Quad meet, underlined the importance of the grouping by noting that the Indo-Pacific was going to become more and more important with the passage of time.

“We were just talking about energy. It’ll even become a big energy lifeline. I mean, if you’re going to see, for example, a much bigger India-US energy trade or India’s energy and general trade with the US, with other countries in the Americas, I can see, you know, much more growth, much more trade, much more maritime activity out there,” Rubio said interacting recently with reporters in India.

West Asia Crisis

The Ministers are expected to discuss in details the West Asia crisis and its impact on the global economy and energy security. Curbing China’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific and control of supply chains is also an area of serious interest for the grouping.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed her strong support for the group in a statement issued on Monday, before her travel to India. “In these uncertain times, the Quad is a vital partnership – four nations working together to shape a peaceful, stable and prosperous future for the Indo-Pacific region,” she said.

Together, Australia, India, Japan and the US are delivering concrete outcomes on shared interests including maritime security, critical minerals supply, infrastructure development and disaster relief, Wong added.

“In keeping with the Quad vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, the Ministers will build on discussions held in Washington DC on July 1, 2025. They will exchange views on advancing Quad cooperation across priority areas, review progress on ongoing Quad initiatives, and reflect on recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region and other international issues of mutual concern,” the Ministry of External Affairs had said in a recent statement.

Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi also arrived in Delhi on Monday and had a bilateral meeting with Jaishankar.
