Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) handed over four ALH Mk III Maritime Role (MR) helicopters to the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) at Bengaluru on Friday, strengthening ICG’s maritime capability.
HAL said the delivery of four adds to a fleet of 16 ALH MKIII (MR) which were handed over to the ICG till 2022. They are expected to be deployed with the Coast Guard Squadrons of Kochi and Porbandar.
Of the contract for nine copters inked in March 2024, HAL will supply remaining five in due course of time.
Helicopter documents were handed over to a team of ICG officials at an event in Bengaluru by the Office of the Regional Director, Aeronautical Quality Assurance (ORDAQA), and the Helicopter Division, of HAL. DIG Rajesh Makwana, Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard) and P B Rangarao, Chief Executive Officer, Helicopter Complex, HAL were among senior officials present on the ocassion.
The ALH MK-III MR is the maritime variant of the indigenous Dhruv Advanced Helicopter. It is a multi-role twin-engine helicopter equipped for demanding maritime operations, including maritime surveillance, Search and Rescue, Casualty Evacuation, Coastal Security, Law Enforcement, VIP travel, Troop Transport, Logistics and Anti-piracy.
