The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is staring at a stunning collapse in its long-held stronghold of Chennai, with the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leading in 14 of the city’s 16 Assembly constituencies, with the DMK in two.
In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the DMK alliance swept Chennai district, winning all 16 seats in the capital city.
CM Stalin trails in Kolathur shocker
In a major upset, Chief Minister M K Stalin is trailing in Kolathur, a seat he has represented for years. The only consolation for the DMK comes from Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni, where his son Udhayanidhi Stalin is ahead by 1,770 votes in a constituency the party has never lost.
Vijay-led TVK makes sweeping gains
TVK founder Joseph Vijay is leading in Perambur, while his close associates Aadhava Arjuna and Bussy Anand are ahead in Villivakkam and T. Nagar, respectively, underlining the party’s sweeping momentum across the capital.
