Stock market live: India on track to become stock-pickers' market in June, brokerages say

India is likely to become a stock-pickers market in June as local money moves selectively into certain sectors ‌while bearish bets by overseas investors limit broader gains, two brokerages said.

The benchmark Nifty 50 ended the May derivatives series little changed at 23,913.7 points, after months of volatile trade ‌in which the Iran war led energy shock battered markets.

For the June derivative ‌series, brokerage Systematix expects the Nifty to ‌trade between 23,000 and 25,000, while Axis Direct forecasts a narrower 23,000 to 24,500 band with 24,000 as the key pivot point.

The May series marked a shift in “market ‌character”, representing a transition from a short covering-led recovery to fresh positioning near higher levels, as the blue-chip index rebounded to stall near ‌the 50-day moving average, Systematix said. - PTI

Commodities market update: Gold and silver face pressure as US-Iran strikes and hawkish Fed bets fuel market uncertainty

Renisha Chainani, head of research at Augmont, wrties - ran Strike rattles precious metals; Hawkish Fed bets compound the pressure

    • Price movement– Gold and silver are under pressure following US military strikes on southern Iran, which have effectively ended near-term hopes for a diplomatic resolution. Oil prices have risen sharply in response, reviving energy-driven inflation concerns. This geopolitical escalation creates a conflicted environment for gold: while safe-haven demand typically supports the metal, the concurrent inflation risk is simultaneously strengthening the dollar and lifting bond yields, limiting any meaningful upside from a flight-to-safety bid.

    • Geopolitical Developments - US Central Command confirmed strikes targeting missile launch sites and vessels suspected of mine-laying activity in southern Iran, framing the operations as force protection measures for American troops in the region. President Trump acknowledged that diplomatic channels with Tehran remain active and described negotiations as progressing, but issued a conditional warning that further military action remains on the table should talks collapse. The dual signalling — engagement alongside escalation — is sustaining elevated uncertainty in risk markets.

    • Macro-economic Signals – Market attention is now concentrated on the upcoming PCE inflation print, which will provide the next meaningful data point for assessing Federal Reserve policy direction. Bond markets have repriced materially: the probability of a 25bps Fed rate hike by December now stands at approximately 40%, while the odds of zero rate cuts in 2026 have risen to 60%. April PPI, recorded at an annualised 6%, has reinforced this hawkish reassessment.

    Technical Triggers

    • Gold is currently trading near the lower boundary of the $4,450–$4,600 range. A sustained break below this level would likely trigger additional profit-booking, with $4,380 as the next downside target.

    • Silver remains range-bound between $72 and $78.50, and directional momentum is expected to stay compressed until a definitive outcome emerges from US-Iran negotiations.

Expert View | Ruchit Thakur, Market Analyst, VT Markets on Crude Oil Volatility Raises Global Inflation and Market Risk Concerns

The crude oil market is still significantly impacted by geopolitical issues, transportation disruptions, and policy uncertainty. Although outright supply shortages have not yet occurred on a significant scale, markets are trading with a significant geopolitical risk premium due to the simultaneous vulnerability of many key energy chokepoints.

Current Crude Oil prospects three competing dynamics are currently being balanced by the market: geopolitical supply risk, declining global demand growth, and OPEC supply control. The primary drivers continue to be regional disputes involving major producers and transit corridors, as well as uncertainty surrounding maritime energy lines. Brent crude has remained structurally stable because markets are pricing the possibility of disruptions rather than their certainty.

One of these significant vulnerabilities is the Strait of Hormuz, which is passed by around one-fifth of the world’s oil flows. Shipping risks related to sanctions and Russian oil exports are another. Potential weather disruptions that could affect US infrastructure for refining and production during the Atlantic hurricane season.

The market is primarily concerned with rising freight and insurance costs, shipping delays, tanker rerouting, and inventory instability in addition to actual output loss. Even little perturbations can significantly tighten prompt crude balances.

Indeed, there would be implications for inflation and central banks since persistent oil volatility could definitely rekindle worries about inflation around the world. Fuel prices, freight and logistics expenses, electricity production, industrial input costs, food transportation, and consumer inflation predictions are just a few of the ways that oil influences inflation.

Central banks might encounter a challenging scenario such as decreasing growth but sticky inflation if Brent crude were to stay high for an extended length of time. As a result, a traditional stagflationary risk environment is created.

Indeed, as persistent oil volatility frequently leads to higher bond yields, increased demand for dollars, weaker emerging market currencies, and a more cautious attitude toward stocks, there would be an impact on global risk assets. Asset-wise effects, like equities, could become volatile if inflation forecasts rise. Emerging markets that rely heavily on imports may do poorly. Gold might benefit if there is a lot of geopolitical worry. However, if increasing oil drives up rates and the currency, gold’s upside can temporarily become mixed. Currencies While exporters frequently make money, nations that purchase oil may see a decline in their currencies.

The oil market now functions in a highly headline sensitive environment where geopolitical developments can swiftly overshadow traditional supply-demand fundamentals. Although there is currently less chance of an uncontrollable oil super-spike due to global GDP slowing, the market is still vulnerable to shipping disruptions, regional escalation, and prolonged logistical uncertainty.

The ramifications might go far beyond the energy markets to include inflation, monetary policy, currency stability, and a general sense of global risk if crude prices continue to fluctuate and rise in the upcoming months.

DIIs cushion market as FIIs exit India in Q4 FY26

Ventura Research has highlighted strong domestic institutional participation in Indian equity markets during Q4 FY25–26, despite continued heavy selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).

According to Ventura’s latest Mutual Fund Quarterly Booklet, FIIs recorded net outflows of ₹1,31,122 crore during Jan–Mar 2026, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) infused ₹2,44,052 crore, helping offset market volatility driven by global uncertainty, elevated US bond yields, and cautious foreign investor sentiment.

For the full fiscal year FY25–26, FII outflows narrowed by nearly 34% YoY to ₹2,64,819 crore, while DII inflows surged around 47% YoY to ₹8,43,206 crore — reflecting the increasing strength and resilience of domestic participation in Indian markets.

Ventura noted that sustained mutual fund inflows, rising retail participation, and strong domestic consumption continue to support long-term market stability despite fluctuations in global capital flows.

Market analysis | Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com

Bitcoin remained under pressure on May 27. The market struggled to move back above the important $78,000-$80,000 zone even as geopolitical sentiment improved and global risk assets stabilised. Bitcoin trading near $75,750-$75,900 during the session, with market capitalisation hovering around $1.5 trillion and 24-hour trading volume above $25 billion. The inability to sustain above the $78,000 level continued to keep short-term momentum weak, even though the broader structure of the market has not yet broken decisively.

The immediate support zone now sits near $75,000, while a deeper downside level is visible around $71,400. On the upside, resistance remains clustered between $78,200 and $80,500. Glassnode’s latest on-chain assessment showed that Bitcoin failed to reclaim the True Market Mean near $78,300, which remains an important sentiment threshold for traders and institutions. At the same time, the realised profit/loss ratio moved higher, signalling that profit-booking activity has increased during recent rebounds. Spot cumulative volume delta also remained negative. This indicates that aggressive spot buyers were still absent from the market.

Institutional flows weakened further before May 27. Farside Investors data showed that US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a net outflow of roughly $141 million on May 26. ETF flows have slowed materially compared to the strong accumulation phases seen earlier this year. That matters because ETF demand has remained one of Bitcoin’s most important liquidity channels since the January 2024 approvals. Sustained outflows reduce the market’s ability to absorb profit-taking pressure during periods of macro uncertainty.

Macro conditions remain the dominant driver for crypto over the near term. Markets are now paying closer attention to the US Federal Reserve’s interest rate direction. Traders are watching upcoming inflation data and Treasury yields closely for signals on whether the Fed could start cutting rates later this year.Reuters reported that oil prices and geopolitical tensions are still affecting global inflation expectations. At the same time, central banks like the ECB and the Bank of Japan remain cautious about inflation risks. Elevated bond yields and a stronger dollar have historically acted as headwinds for crypto risk assets.

Among large-cap altcoins, performance remained mixed on May 27. Ethereum trading near $2,071, while Solana hovered around $84 and XRP near $1.32. BNB and TRON were relatively stronger compared to the broader altcoin market. This divergence suggests that liquidity remains selective rather than broad-based. The market is still favouring a handful of defensive large-cap assets instead of supporting a full-scale altcoin recovery.

Our advice: For investors, the cleaner bullish confirmation is still missing. For Bitcoin to see a stronger recovery, it would likely need to move back above the $78,000-$80,000 range. ETF inflows also need to stabilise, while pressure from Treasury yields and inflation expectations should ease further. Until then, market positioning may continue to remain cautious rather than aggressive.

Expert View | Akshay Chinchalkar, Managing Partner and Head of Market Strategy, The Wealth Company

“Talking domestic stocks, and the nifty closed 0.5% lower at 23914. Price action for the day showed “buyer rejection” as the index retreated 0.7% from its intraday highs and failed to follow through on Monday’s upside breakout. Still, the India VIX fell 3.4% as investors shunned protection. Yesterday was expiration day, with the front-month nifty futures seeing long liquidation while bank nifty futures saw fresh shorting. Mid- and small-caps gained however. On the NSE500, falling stocks slightly edged out those that gained. 8 of the main NSE sectors fell, with financial services the worst performers, as they slipped 0.6%. Metals were the top gainers as they rallied 1.1%. Technically speaking, bulls must protect 23835 on a daily closing basis and send the index above the 24127 - 24284 resistance area to extend the recovery. This is especially important given that yesterday was a so-called “distribution” day on the nifty, with prices down at least 0.2% from the previous day’s close on higher volumes.

Now, coming to flows, based on provisional data, foreigners withdrew 2408 cr while domestic players invested 1361 cr.

Speaking index options positioning, foreigners and prop traders went bearish, while retail investors turned bullish.”

BrainBees Solutions (Reco: Buy, FV: Rs. 350) - Multiple headwinds impact India business performance

Firstcry reported in-line revenue growth of 12.0% yoy in 4Q driven by (1) 11.4% yoy growth in India multi-channel business, (2) 9.5% yoy growth in international and (3) 15% yoy growth in GlobalBees. India EBITDA margin contracted by 202 bps yoy to 7.3% on RM price inflation, higher discounting as well as investments into quick commerce. We trim margin estimates for the India business. The earnings cuts and roll-forward to June 2028 drive a revised SoTP-based FV of Rs350 (Rs430 earlier). There is value in the stock though near-term headwinds persist.

Jubilant Ingrevia (Reco: Buy, FV: Rs. 940) - Much improved results, better still lies ahead

Jubilant Ingrevia (JIL) reported significantly improved results for 4QFY26, aided by a pickup across segments—particularly Specialty Chemicals. Management guides to 20%+ EBITDA growth in FY2027, with sequential improvement every quarter starting 1QFY27, driven by execution of the Rs15 bn order book. We raise EPS by 3-5% and revise our SoTP-based Fair Value, rolled forward to June 2027E, to Rs940 (from Rs880). Retain BUY.

Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail (Reco: Reduce, FV: Rs. 65) - Cash flow situation remains concerning

ABFRL posted revenue growth of 16% yoy, with the revenue of Pantaloons increasing by 19% yoy and other business (ethnic + TMRW + others) by 12.2% yoy. EBITDA of Rs2.0 bn implied margin of 9.9%, a contraction of 200 bps yoy (note the base quarter there was a tailwind from positive inter-segment EBITDA). ABFRL consumed cash of Rs14.4 bn in FY2026 and slipped to net debt of Rs1.5 bn as of March 2026. It will have to focus on profitability from core businesses and rein in losses of newer businesses to keep debt under check. We retain REDUCE, with an SoTP-based FV of Rs65 (previously Rs70).

TCS (Reco: Buy, FV: Rs. 3100) - TCS AR analysis—on path toward AI-led transformation

TCS’ annual report detailed the company strategy to benefit from a large opportunity, arising from enterprise AI adoption. Full-stack play from infrastructure to intelligence is a key differentiator. Other key insights include (1) a ramp-down in its top account drives yet another sharp revenue decline in TCS e-Serve International, (2) reasonable growth in Diligenta, despite the absence of mega deals, (3) the transition underway in the Postbank engagement drove a decline in TCS Technology Solutions GmbH—new projects partly offset the impact and (4) a steep premium was paid for the Coastal Cloud acquisition at 26X EV/EBITDA CY2025. We note that most client-specific issues impacting business performance are now behind and it is now well-placed to converge revenue growth with peers. Maintain BUY.

CEAT (Reco: Reduce, FV: Rs. 3350) - Takeaways from investor meet

CEAT highlighted its target of (1) sustained leadership in the 2W and 4W aftermarket segments by FY2031E, (2) scaling up commercial radials and lifting international saliency to 33% of revenues and (3) phased integration of the Camso portfolio, with full brand transfer by September 2028. We maintain our estimates and expect domestic volume growth to moderate to 5-7% yoy in FY2027E, as sharper pricing in the replacement market will weigh on overall growth. RM headwinds will weigh on the near-term. Additionally, downside risks pertaining to the Camso acquisition persist. REDUCE stays.

KEC International (Reco: Reduce, FV: Rs. 510) - Investor day: T&D strong; near-term headwinds persist

KEC reiterated its FY2027 guidance of 12-15% topline growth and Rs300 bn order intake. Management remains confident about growth, led by a Rs400 bn order book and robust order pipeline of Rs1.8 tn over the next 3-4 months. On profitability, management has refrained from giving guidance due to the supply chain disruption led by the West Asia conflict, which impacted execution and increased costs; it will likely provide a full-year margin guidance after 1QFY27. Since commentary was in line with 4QFY26 earnings call, we continue with existing estimates and FV of Rs510. Retain REDUCE.

Diversified Financials (Sector View: Attractive)- Fastening belts

The rise in bond yields and policy rates will raise NBFCs’ borrowing costs. While the incremental cost of funds for most players is likely up 30-50 bps since February 2026, the average cost of funds benefits from a high base effect in the near term. NIM pressure, more visible in 2HFY27E, will likely reflect the impact of rising bond yields and any policy rate hikes, partially offset by the changing business mix and any likely moderation in competitive intensity. On a positive note, NCD redemption is expected to be low (2-4%) in FY2027E and higher in FY2028E.

Real Estate (Sector View: Attractive) - Record occupancy levels, hazy outlook

Commercial real estate in top Indian cities saw some moderation in 4QFY26, with net absorption of 10.1 mn sq. ft (+5% yoy), although it still exceeded new supply of 4.4 mn sq. ft (-56% yoy), leading to historically low vacancy levels of 11.5% (-227 bps yoy). GCCs and flexible office operators continue to drive demand even as the share of technology services continues to decline. Market rentals continue growing and occupancy levels across REITs have crossed the 90% mark with most REITs targeting 93-94% occupancy by the end of FY2027. Large acquisitions coupled with a strong construction pipeline could continue to support double-digit earnings growth, although strong price performance have led to a drop in distribution yields (5.5-7% on FY2027E).

Travel Foods Services (Reco: Add, FV: Rs. 1290) - All-round beat

TFS reported a strong quarter, as system sales grew 27.7% yoy (KIE: 25.5%) to Rs9 bn, aided by 25.7%/30% consolidated/JV sales growth. EBITDA margin expanded 370 bps yoy to 40.4% (KIE: 36.6%). Despite subdued air passenger traffic growth in FY2026, TFS registered 25.4% system sales growth and 14%/21.3%/21.5% adj. consol. revenue/EBITDA/PAT growth, driven by recent concession wins and pricing/premiumization levers. We expect TFS’ near- term growth momentum to sustain, and a potential lounge win in international markets offers growth optionality. We maintain EPS estimates, roll over and revise FV to Rs1,290 (from Rs1,270) at 33X June 2028E PE. ADD.

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility (Reco: Sell, FV: Rs. 800) - Mixed bag, cell ambitions lose key anchor

Amara Raja’s EBITDA, at Rs3.8 bn (+10% yoy), was 1.5% below estimates. Standalone revenues rose 16% yoy, above expectations, led by strong growth in OEMs and the new energy business. While we expect the lead-acid business performance to remain steady, the Gotion partnership break removes the LFP technology pillar of the Giga corridor, adding timeline and capex risk to the new energy business. BESS remains an opportunity, but lack of relevant technology can be a medium-term risk. Retain SELL, with an unchanged FV of Rs800.

  • May 27, 2026 10:22

Container Corp. (Reco: Sell, FV: Rs. 460) - Market share loss continues

CCRI reported an in-line print on EXIM. The double-digit EBITDA miss was driven by the domestic segment, partly linked to events specific to the quarter. With a further market share loss in FY2026, the uptick in the EXIM segment’s margin has limited relevance. Guidance for FY2027 is weak and suggests a deferral of benefits of DFC commissioning into 2H. We lower FV to Rs460 (Rs500 earlier), net of roll-forward, with 9-12% earnings cut. CCRI’s ability to fend off competition and return on (and quantum of) investments in the Bharat Container Shipping line remain key imponderables. SELL stays.

  • May 27, 2026 10:22

Narayana Hrudalaya (Reco: Add, FV: Rs. 2100) - A decent outing

NARH reported a stable 4QFY26 driven by steady growth in India and continued uptick in Cayman (48% yoy sales growth, largely led by the insurance vertical). Primarily aided by further improvement in the case/payor mix, we bake in 15% India sales/EBITDA CAGRs each over FY2026-29E. Led by a continued ramp-up in the Camana Bay Hospital, lower losses in the insurance business and a better margin profile for PPG, we bake in a healthy ~24% overall EBITDA CAGR over FY2026-29E. While the largely debt-funded foray in the UK does raise eyebrows, we highlight that NARH is unable to repatriate the cash generated in Cayman to its India entity without incurring tax liabilities, thereby limiting options. Retain ADD with an FV of Rs2,100.

InterGlobe Aviation (Reco: Buy, FV: Rs. 5400) - The odd battle of two giants

InterGlobe Aviation (Reco: Buy, FV: Rs. 5400) - The odd battle of two giants

Indigo and Air India have comparable scale but very different balance sheets and network strategies. Indigo comes out as a winner in terms of managing externalities and using cash to potentially add to its cost advantage versus peers over time. The one area where Indigo lacks is in long-haul international, an uphill battle for which Indigo is preparing. We lower estimates for Indigo on higher currency and FY2027 crude price estimates and increase the multiple to 23X (from 22X), yielding Rs5,400 FV (Rs5,500 earlier). The higher multiple factors in the need for price upticks beyond cost increases to make the sector financially viable for peers of Indigo—10% quantum of such pricing moves can potentially happen over a three-year period, enough to double our FY2028E profitability assumption for Indigo.

    Market commentary | Avinash Shekhar, Co-Founder & CEO, Pi42

“Bitcoin is trading near the $75,000–$76,000 range after facing renewed downside pressure, with broader market sentiment slipping into extreme fear territory following recent volatility. The latest pullback comes as Bitcoin struggles to regain momentum after repeated failures to sustainably reclaim the $80,000 level.

At the same time, market positioning is beginning to show early signs of stabilisation. Bitcoin’s funding rate has flipped back into positive territory after an extended negative streak, historically a signal that bearish positioning may be easing and that market sentiment could gradually shift toward recovery.

Despite the weak short-term price action, on-chain and institutional activity continues to provide underlying support. Long-term investors have continued accumulating during the recent correction, while broader market analysis suggests the $74,000 zone is emerging as a stronger support floor than current sentiment may indicate.

From a technical standpoint, Bitcoin remains at a critical juncture. While near-term weakness persists and volatility is likely to remain elevated, stabilisation above the mid-$70,000 range could create conditions for a potential breakout if momentum and market confidence begin to recover in the coming sessions.”

IIFL Financials: Credit Chronicles – Risk and Reward (III)

Our third edition of bureau data analysis shows retail loan growth momentum sustaining (17% yoy) and asset quality improving across the sub-segments and lender categories (ex PSUs in PL and MSME). Key takeaways:

    (1) Secured loans growing faster than unsecured loans.

    (2) PSU banks gaining market share (MS) in home (HL), auto and personal loans (PL); NBFCs in gold, two-wheeler (TW) and consumer durable (CD) loans.

    (3) Avg. ticket size is rising in home, gold (premiumisation) and PL, but is flattish for auto, TW and CD loans (GST cuts).

    (4) Beyond Top 100 cities driving growth in mass market products (40-50% of disbursements.

    (5) Sluggish HL growth amid elevated competition from the PSUs

    (6) Gold loans growth accelerating aided by gold prices and regulations

    (7) PL growth has picked up as AQ has improved (ex. deterioration for PSUs)

    (8) Auto disbursements are reviving, and AQ improving

    (9) New credit card issuances continue to decline, but AQ is improving

    (10) NBFCs fare better than Pvt banks in TW and CD loans, both in terms of growth and asset quality.

While there are no pockets of stress currently, given the El Nino and other macro risks, Financials with higher rural exposure (vehicle financiers, MFIs, PSUs and mid-size banks) may see delinquencies moving up. Consequently, we have built 10-20bps rise in credit cost for most banks (ex Axis, Kotak, IIB and RBL due to higher base in FY26) over FY27-28E.

We prefer ICICI > Axis > HDFC among large banks, are cautious on PSUs and selective in mid size banks.

Over the last 5 years, this FOF has outperformed its benchmark across multiple time horizons, while navigating varying market conditions.

Launched in May 2021, the fund follows a diversified multi-asset strategy by investing across equity-oriented, debt-oriented, and Gold ETF schemes. The fund aims to help investors participate in long-term wealth creation through thoughtful allocation across asset classes while navigating changing market environments.

As on April 30, 2026, the Scheme (Regular – Growth Option) has outperformed the benchmark by 2.75% since inception.
