ensex Today, Nifty 50 | Stock Market Updates - Find here all the updates related to Sensex, Nifty, BSE, NSE, share prices and Indian stock markets for 8th May 2026.
Indian equity markets remained under pressure on Friday amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Fresh exchanges of fire between the US and Iran near the Strait of Hormuz dampened investor sentiment and heightened volatility across global markets. Analysts said Indian equities are likely to stay highly sensitive to geopolitical developments and related news flow in the near term.
At 2.04 pm, Sensex depreciated 667 pts or 0.86% to 77,176, and Nifty 50 fell 174 pts or 0.72% to 24,152.
Despite the cautious market mood, Emkay Global Research remains constructive on Indian equities, expecting macroeconomic conditions and corporate earnings to recover once tensions surrounding Iran ease and the Strait of Hormuz reopens.
Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors continued aggressive selling in April despite a sharp rebound in benchmark indices, pushing FII ownership in Indian equities to its lowest level since June 2012.

Comments from R.V.Gumaste, Managing Director, KFIL on Q4 results
I am pleased to share that KFIL has concluded the year with a strong Q4 performance, characterized by robust volume growth and improved operational efficiencies across our key segments. Despite the macro-economic headwinds that persisted throughout the year, our consolidated annual revenue grew by 5% to Rs. 6,889 Crore, PBT before exceptional Item grew by 25% to Rs. 512 Cr, while our YTD PAT saw a significant 22% increase to Rs. 358 Crore.
Our resilience was particularly evident in our rapid response to the Solapur LPG supply disruption in mid-March. By swiftly pivoting to alternate fuel solutions, we achieved a turnaround in just four days, minimizing the impact on our production schedules and customer commitments.
Moving forward, all our major capital projects and strategic mergers are progressing as planned. We remain deeply committed to our long-term vision of value creation, focusing on a richer product mix, cost optimization through renewable energy, and enhancing our competitive position in the global market.

Gold outlook: Gold and silver extend rally on softer dollar, easing US-Iran tensions and weak US jobs outlook
Renisha Chainani, head of research at Augmont
· Safe-Haven Dynamics – Gold and Silver have resumed their upward trend, supported by optimism around a potential US–Iran peace deal that is weakening the safe-haven appeal of the USD. Despite ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, investor sentiment leans toward diplomatic resolution. This has pushed Crude Oil prices lower, reducing inflationary pressure and lowering expectations of a more aggressive Fed stance.
· Geopolitical Developments - Iran has accused the US of breaching the ceasefire through strikes near the Strait. The Trump administration is awaiting Tehran’s formal response to a proposal aimed at reopening Hormuz and resolving the roughly ten-week conflict. Reports suggest Iran will relay its position via Pakistan within two days.
· Macro-economic Signals Markets are focused on today’s NFP print, forecast at 62K — a sharp pullback from March’s stronger-than-expected 178K. The Unemployment Rate is projected to hold at 4.3%, while Average Hourly Earnings growth is expected to tick up to 3.8% from 3.5%, keeping wage inflation in focus.
Technical Triggers
· Gold continues its upside momentum with next target resistance at $4,800–4,850 (~ ₹1,55,000).
· Silver has met the $80 (₹2,60,000) and $82 (₹2,65,000) upside target. Prices are expected to consolidate here for a while before moving higher towards $85 (~Rs 270,000)

Currency market updates: Bitcoin slips below $80,000 amid ETF outflows and Fed rate uncertainty: Giottus CEO Vikram Subburaj
Bitcoin traded near $79,800 on May 8, 2026. It slipped below the key $80,000 level after a volatile week. ETF outflows and fresh macro uncertainty added pressure to the market. The broader structure, however, remains relatively stable as institutional demand continues to absorb deeper corrections. Market participants are now shifting focus from momentum-driven upside to macro-sensitive positioning ahead of key U.S. economic data releases.
Technically, Bitcoin faces immediate resistance in the $81,700–$82,800 range. A stronger breakout zone remains near the 200-day moving average around $83,300. On the downside, the first major support lies near $79,300, while stronger demand is expected in the $78,000–$78,500 region. Bitcoin could see a deeper pullback if these levels fail to hold. In that case, the price may move toward the mid-$74,000 zone. Previous buying activity had emerged around that level earlier this quarter.
On-chain indicators continue to show mixed but constructive signals. Data tracked by CryptoQuant indicates long-term holders accumulated roughly 331,000 BTC over the past month. This suggests larger investors continue to buy during periods of consolidation rather than distribute aggressively. Exchange reserves also remain relatively subdued. This indicates immediate sell-side pressure is still limited despite recent volatility.
ETF flows turned weaker during the May 7–8 period. According to Farside Investors, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $170 million in net outflows on May 7 after modest inflows earlier in the week. While single-day outflows are not uncommon after strong rallies. The slowdown indicates institutions are becoming more cautious ahead of macro events.
Macro conditions are now the dominant short-term driver for crypto markets. Investors are closely watching the U.S. non-farm payrolls data and next week’s CPI inflation print for clues on Federal Reserve policy direction. Recent Fed commentary has reinforced expectations that rate cuts could remain delayed if inflation stays elevated. Treasury yields and dollar strength therefore remain critical variables for crypto assets.
Among major altcoins, Ethereum traded near $2,275, BNB around $638, XRP near $1.38, and Solana close to $88. Large-cap altcoins continue to underperform Bitcoin. This suggests capital rotation into a broader altcoin cycle remains limited for now.
Our advice: Bitcoin remains structurally resilient despite falling below $80,000. However, softer ETF flows and uncertainty around Fed rate expectations could increase near-term volatility. Investors should avoid excessive leverage near resistance zones and maintain disciplined risk management until macro conditions become clearer.

Share market live: CLSA Price Action (Laurence Balanco)
Nifty advance is hesitating around its 50DMA
A sustained break above the 50DMA would expose the next layer of resistance at the 200DMA (25,064)
In contrast, the NSE Midcap Index is displaying greater relative strength and is threatening a breakout above the upper boundary of its 2024-to-date consolidation range at 60,925-61,393
A close above this zone would confirm a major bullish resolution, implying an upside objective of 77,687-78,000
Notably, on a relative basis, the NSE Midcap Index has already broken above its 2024 highs and is trading at new all-time highs, underscoring continued leadership versus the large-cap benchmark

The Nifty Midcap 100 continues to trade on higher note, recently shattering previous ceilings to hit a fresh record high. While large-cap indices like the Nifty 50 are struggling under the weight of global macroeconomic pressures, midcaps are practically running their own race.
It essentially boils down to a potent mix of superior earnings, relentless domestic liquidity, and a clear shift in investor preference. Mid-sized companies—especially within sectors like capital goods, real estate, and auto ancillaries—have delivered standout quarterly earnings that heavily overshadow the sluggish growth seen in large-cap IT and banking giants. Furthermore, the sheer volume of retail money pouring in through mutual fund SIPs is providing an unprecedented liquidity cushion. Domestic investors are no longer waiting for foreign institutional cues; they are actively rotating their capital away from saturated, heavy-weight large caps to aggressively chase the higher domestic growth stories sitting in the midcap space.
With the Nifty Midcap index trading in volatile zone, the million-dollar question for retail investors is whether to cash out or ride the wave. In the immediate short term, extreme caution is required. The recent vertical rally has pushed valuations in the broader market into deeply overbought zones. Many midcap stocks are now priced for perfection, leaving absolutely no room for earnings misses or negative global news. While the underlying fundamental growth story for these companies remains strong over a multi-year horizon, the immediate price action suggests the market is overdue for a healthy breather or consolidation. Market experts are strongly cautioning against aggressive, lump-sum buying at these peak levels. The smartest play right now is defensive profit-taking. Investors are advised to book partial profits in stocks that have run up too fast and disconnect from their fundamental value, while using trailing stop-losses to protect running gains on their remaining portfolio. Keeping some cash on the sidelines to deploy during the next market dip is the most prudent strategy for the coming weeks.

Stock market live today: Nifty holds steady after recent rally; 24,200 is key support, close above 24,400 needed for fresh upside: Rajesh Palviya, Axis Direct
Rajesh Palviya, Head of Research, Axis Direct.
The Nifty closed nearly unchanged yesterday at 24,326, just four points lower after Wednesday’s sharp 298-point increase — a pause rather than a trend reversal. Wall Street dipped overnight as profit-taking took hold following the record high, with the S&P 500 falling 0.38%, the Dow down 0.63%, and the Nasdaq dropping 0.13%, despite oil rising sharply on new US-Iran tensions in the Strait of Hormuz. Asian markets are weak this morning, with Japan and Korea opening 0.6–0.7% lower. Brent crude recovered above $101, gold is close to $4,720, and silver remains around $80. GIFT Nifty indicates a weak start. Technically, 24,200 is now key support; falling below this could quickly push the index toward 24,000. Bulls need a daily close above 24,400 to regain upward momentum. Overall, the market shows confidence, with the Nifty Midcap 100 at an all-time high, supporting a buy on dips approach as long as major support levels hold. Sector and stock-specific movements are expected to continue.

Over the last five years, Equirus Capital has executed transactions worth approximately Rs 4,500 crore in the infrastructure and transportation sector.
CEPL is the special purpose vehicle developing and operating the six-laning of the Kozhikode Bypass section on NH-66 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (“HAM”) framework awarded by NHAI. The transaction involved a comprehensive sponsor transition and refinancing exercise, combining a secondary stake sale, structured primary capital infusion and refinancing of existing debt facilities within a single integrated framework.
“The CEPL transaction was approached as a comprehensive value realization exercise, rather than a conventional asset divestment.
