Datamatics Global Services Limited has gone live as the implementing partner for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) and mobile ticketing systems on Mumbai Metro Lines 2B and 9, the company announced. Phase 1 of both lines was inaugurated on April 8, 2026, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The AFC system enables faster entry and exit at stations, supports automatic fare deduction and is compatible with both QR-coded tickets and common mobility cards.

The development extends Datamatics’ existing footprint on the Mumbai Metro network. The Mumbai-headquartered company had previously implemented AFC solutions for Lines 2A and 7. Rahul Kanodia, Vice Chairman and CEO, said the company was proud to enable “faster, smarter, and more seamless mobility” for Mumbaikars, adding that being headquartered in the city made the association particularly meaningful.

Globally, Datamatics claims to have executed over 30 AFC projects in cities including London, New York, Melbourne, Hong Kong, and Dubai, as well as for the Memphis Area Transit Authority in the United States. In India, its AFC deployments span the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, Kolkata Metro, Pune Metro, Lucknow Metro, and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine cable car in Jammu.

Datamatics shares on the NSE rose 5.12 per cent to ₹732.50 on April 15, against a previous close of ₹696.80, touching an intraday high of ₹745. Traded value stood at ₹18.46 crore, with total market capitalisation at approximately ₹4,320 crore. The stock has gained around 23 per cent over the past year, though it remains well below its 52-week high of ₹1,120 recorded in August 2025.
