Hindustan Zinc to focus on critical mineral production
2026-05-06 · via Company News: Companies Analysis, Updates & Insights | The HinduBusinessLine

Hindustan Zinc plans to sharpen its focus on strengthening India’s resource base as global supply chains shift from efficiency to resilience.

Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc, said resource security will define the next phase of industrial and economic growth, as global supply chains shift from efficiency to resilience. She said, “India has a task at hand – reducing its heavy dependency on imports for all critical minerals. Your company is in an excellent position to lead this effort.”

“We are evolving from a zinc and silver company into a future-ready platform across multiple metals and critical minerals, for India and the world,” she said in the company’s annual report. The future of a much more diversified HZL is aligned with India’s national priorities and it is also beginning to take shape.

The company’s participation in recent mineral auctions is just the beginning. So far, the company has secured blocks for tungsten, potash, rare earth elements and halite.

“We are also investing in technology and global partnerships to improve exploration outcomes. This is a long-term effort, but essential for building resource security and reducing import dependence,” she said.

The minerals and metals industry has many downward linkages with huge possibilities for value addition and job creation via the growth of MSMEs and startups.

With this in mind, we are advancing our Zinc Parks initiative in Rajasthan. Through partnerships with Tripura Group and CMR Green Technologies, the company will be moving towards establishing India’s first integrated ecosystem for zinc-based manufacturing, said Hebbar.

“We are moving towards establishing India’s first integrated ecosystem for zinc-based manufacturing. This will enable the development of facilities focused on high-quality, low-emission zinc alloys and value-added products, while bringing together MSMEs and large enterprises across galvanising, die-casting and allied applications, she added.

“Over time, we see this evolving into a scalable industrial cluster that drives value addition within India, strengthens domestic manufacturing capabilities and supports the country’s broader push towards industrial self-reliance,” she added.
