The Indian Information Technology (IT) industry has already put in place established hybrid work models and various energy-saving and operational resilience measures to tackle the ongoing Middle East tensions, and is also monitoring the situation closely, industry body NASSCOM said on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged Indian citizens and businesses to revive ‘Covid-era’ Work From Home (WFH) and virtual meeting arrangements to help the country combat the global energy crisis. While he did not issue a mandate, it was more an advisory and a call for support from citizens and companies.
“The technology industry in India continues to operate on well-established hybrid work models, with organisations calibrating work-from-home and in-office arrangements based on role requirements and customer needs,” NASSCOM said in a statement. “While this remains an evolving situation, we are closely monitoring developments and remain engaged with industry stakeholders and government authorities to ensure a coordinated and responsible response,” it added.
As per Nasscom, in the light of the ongoing Middle East tensions, companies have already adopted prudent energy management measures across campuses, including optimising non-essential consumption, rationalising select facility services, and enabling remote or hybrid work where operationally appropriate to reduce overall energy usage and commuting.
“These measures are not new but are part of the industry’s broader approach to operational resilience and sustainability,” the industry body said.
