EV major Ola Electric has announced that its mass market electric scooter, S1 X+ (5.2 kWh), has been approved by the International Centre for Automative Technology (ICAT), a government certified testing agency under the CMVR (Central motor vehicle rules).
The scooter contains, a 11Kw mid-drive motor with an integrated MCU (Microcontroller unit), with speeds up to 125km/h and a 320 IDC range. It is powered by a 4680 Bharat cell, a lithium-ion cell designed by Ola electrics for long distance vehicles.
An Ola spokesperson said, “The government certification of the S1 X+ 5.2 kWh is a significant milestone as we bring our in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell technology to the mass market at scale.”
The institute had to conduct certain tests in compliance with rules for EV’S under the CMVR. These are crash testing, battery safety, performance tests for parameters like range, acceleration, top speed, energy efficiency and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) to test whether it can withstand electromagnetic interference from outside sources.
The company says that with this certification that that they can bring their EV technology to a wider set of customers.
