Ubigi, the travel eSIM brand owned by Transatel, a subsidiary of Japan’s NTT Group, has appointed French Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon as its new global ambassador. The move is designed to boost the company’s international profile as competition intensifies in the rapidly growing eSIM connectivity market.
Meanwhile, Ubigi reports strong momentum. The company has surpassed three million customers worldwide and expanded its 4G and 5G connectivity services to more than 200 destinations.
For eeNews Europe readers, the announcement highlights the growing role of eSIM technology in global mobility and connected services. It also reflects how telecom providers are increasingly using high-profile technology and motorsport partnerships to promote digital connectivity solutions to both consumers and enterprises.
Ubigi says the partnership with Ocon aligns with its focus on international mobility, performance and technological innovation. As a Formula 1 driver who spends much of the year travelling between races around the world, Ocon represents the type of globally connected user that eSIM providers are targeting.
The company believes the ambassador role will help communicate the benefits of seamless mobile connectivity without the need for physical SIM cards or expensive roaming plans.
“Our ambition at Ubigi is to simplify mobile connectivity for all travellers. In a world where mobile usage continues to grow, we want to offer a seamless, frictionless experience at increasingly accessible prices. The choice of Esteban Ocon fits naturally within this vision: beyond his international reputation, he embodies an ultra-mobile lifestyle, a drive for performance and the ability to thrive in international environments,” said Marie-Julie Le Guen, Ubigi Brand Director at Transatel.
Ocon says he was already familiar with the service before the partnership.
“I discovered Ubigi while travelling to Grand Prix events and was immediately impressed by the simplicity of the concept and the quality of the service. Being able to stay connected in every country I visit throughout the season without worrying about roaming charges is a real advantage in everyday life,” he said.
The collaboration forms part of a broader strategy linking the brand with motorsport, a sector that naturally combines themes of innovation, engineering and high performance. Formula 1’s global audience also provides access to millions of international travellers and technology enthusiasts who regularly depend on reliable mobile connectivity.
Beyond consumer travel services, Ubigi has been active in connected vehicle connectivity since 2017. The company sees this automotive heritage as a natural fit with the motorsport world and a way to strengthen awareness of its wider connectivity portfolio.
As eSIM adoption continues to accelerate across smartphones, tablets, laptops and connected vehicles, partnerships such as this underline how connectivity providers are seeking new ways to stand out in an increasingly crowded global market.
