IQM Quantum Computers has secured its first enterprise quantum computer sale in Japan, marking a milestone for the country’s commercial quantum adoption. The Finland-based company will deploy a 20-qubit system to TOYO Corporation by the end of 2026.
For eeNews Europe readers, the deal highlights how quantum computing is moving from research labs into enterprise infrastructure, particularly in Asia’s fast-growing HPC and advanced manufacturing sectors.
The system, known as Radiance, will be installed for TOYO Corporation and made available both on-premises and via the cloud. The deployment represents the first enterprise-owned quantum computer in Japan and strengthens IQM Quantum Computers’ footprint in the Asia-Pacific region, where it already operates systems in South Korea and Taiwan.
TOYO plans to use the system to support industrial and research use cases while integrating quantum capabilities with high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure. The company also aims to build local expertise as Japan ramps up its national quantum strategy.
Japan has set ambitious goals, targeting 10 million domestic users of quantum technologies and 50 trillion yen in quantum-driven economic value by 2030. Achieving this will require broader access to real quantum hardware, not just theoretical research.
IQM CEO and co-founder Jan Goetz emphasized the shift toward enterprise ownership of quantum systems: “Leading enterprises are building real quantum capabilities by owning the infrastructure, operating it, and growing with it. TOYO’s commitment to this approach represents an important step in realizing Japan’s national quantum strategy based on IQM’s leading quantum computing technology.”
TOYO’s CEO Toshiya Kohno added: “Quantum technology is an essential strategic field for future economic growth, especially for the new era of Japanese manufacturing. The competition for practical implementation — such as integration with HPC, use-case development, and business talent development — has already begun, moving beyond theory and research. With the cooperation of IQM, we will promote the social implementation of quantum technologies in Japan ahead of the world.”
The deal signals a broader trend: quantum computing is entering a phase where enterprise adoption, hybrid HPC integration, and real-world applications are becoming key differentiators.
