Lantronix has teamed up with UK networking specialist Cherry & White to launch a rapid-deployment connectivity platform aimed at utilities, emergency services, defense installations and remote industrial operations.
The new Rapid Wi-Fi Platform combines Lantronix’s ruggedized NTC-552 industrial 5G gateway with Cherry & White’s Rapid Wi-Fi technology, providing enterprise-grade wireless connectivity in locations where permanent communications infrastructure is unavailable or impractical. The companies say the system can be deployed within minutes and delivers connectivity speeds up to 70 times faster than legacy portable solutions.
For eeNews Europe readers involved in industrial networking, critical infrastructure and private 5G deployments, the announcement highlights how vendors are tackling one of the sector’s persistent challenges: delivering secure, high-performance connectivity to remote and temporary sites without the cost and delays associated with fixed infrastructure. It also reflects growing demand for portable communications systems that can support digitalization projects at the network edge.
According to Lantronix and Cherry & White, connectivity gaps remain a significant operational challenge for utilities, industrial facilities and emergency response organizations, where communications failures can directly affect safety, uptime and operating costs.
The platform is built around the Lantronix NTC-552, a rugged industrial 5G gateway designed for demanding field environments. It supports 5G NR Release 16 standalone and non-standalone networks, automatic LTE/4G failover, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and up to 2.5Gbps WAN throughput.
The system is available in two configurations. The Vehicle Connectivity Solution is designed for installation in fleet and response vehicles, extending enterprise-grade connectivity while on the move. The Peli Connectivity Solution packages the technology in a rugged portable case that can be quickly deployed at locations such as emergency staging areas, remote substations and temporary industrial sites.
Both configurations support multiple interfaces, including LAN, WAN, GNSS, Bluetooth and I/O connections. Centralized management is handled through Lantronix’s Percepxion platform, allowing operators to remotely monitor deployments and reduce costly site visits.
The platform has also been designed with private 5G deployments in mind. It is compatible with private spectrum deployments across Germany, France, the UK and Latin America, positioning it as a potential solution for mobile network operators and enterprise customers expanding industrial private networks.
“Critical infrastructure operators are increasingly challenged to deploy secure, high-performance connectivity in remote and difficult environments,” said Mathi Gurusamy, chief strategy officer at Lantronix. “Our collaboration with Cherry & White combines Lantronix’s ruggedized industrial gateways with their Rapid Wi-Fi technology to create a powerful, easy-to-deploy platform that delivers resilient connectivity in locations that traditional networks cannot reach.”
Cherry & White sees the partnership as a way to bring high-bandwidth communications to previously underserved locations. “By integrating our Rapid Wi-Fi technology with Lantronix’s advanced industrial gateway, we can bring high-bandwidth connectivity to locations that previously lacked reliable access,” said David Bayley, chief operating officer at Cherry & White. “Together, we are enabling organizations to deploy critical communications infrastructure faster, more securely and at a significantly lower cost.”
Beyond hardware sales, the companies are also targeting recurring revenue opportunities through managed connectivity services and remote administration. The move extends Lantronix’s reach into fast-growing Industrial IoT and private 5G markets, particularly in sectors that require secure, centrally managed communications infrastructure in hard-to-reach environments.
