Insurance and re-insurance broker BMS launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Mumbai on Monday, positioning the facility as a core engine for its data, analytics and artificial intelligence ambitions, rather than a peripheral support office.

The centre is headed by Nipun Mapara as Managing Director, with Sanjeev Poojari leading operations. It will work alongside BMS teams worldwide across broking, technology, analytics and client services.

The move comes as BMS accelerates deployment of AI tools across its broking and operations functions. The Mumbai GCC is intended to provide the specialist capacity needed to deliver that rollout at scale. Consulting firm EY advised on the centre's feasibility, design and build.

Group CEO Nick Cook said the facility is "a platform for building the data and AI capability that will help BMS serve clients better and compete more effectively," adding that the company intends the centre to function as a genuine centre of excellence, not merely a back-office operation.

The GCC expands BMS's existing India footprint, which includes a recently announced strategic partnership with Berns Brett India. The company said the investment in Mumbai is part of a broader push for geographical diversification and sustainable growth.

BMS operates across the wholesale, reinsurance, direct insurance and capital advisory markets.
