In a major boost to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu, three MLAs from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam resigned from the Assembly on Monday and joined the TVK.
The legislators — Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam constituency), Jayakumar (Perundurai) and Sathyabama (Dharapuram) — met Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar and submitted their resignation letters.
Soon after, the three leaders met senior TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna and formally joined the party.
The resignations will trigger by-elections in the three constituencies along with Tiruchirapalli (East), where Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay had won. He later vacated the seat to retain Perambur.
