Pharma major Biocon Limited has reported a 56.8 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) decline in consolidated net profit to ₹198.6 crore for Q4FY26, impacted by an exceptional item outgo of ₹80.4 crore during the fourth quarter. However, the company saw growth in its core businesses, with traction across the biosimilars and generics segments.

Revenue from operations for the quarter stood at ₹4,517 crore, up 13 per cent year-on-year, including licensing income received during the period.

Segment performance

The biosimilars business grew 16 per cent year-on-year to ₹2,756 crore during the quarter. The generics segment, however, declined 17 per cent to ₹847 crore, while the CDMO business grew 3 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,037 crore.

“The combined business has a stronger balance sheet, improved leverage metrics and a more global commercial footprint. We are now focused on profitability enhancement and long-term value creation,” said Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Executive Chairperson, Biocon Limited.

The company made a net R&D investment of ₹277 crore during the quarter.

During the year, the company integrated its biologics arm within the Biocon group. Announced in December 2025, the integration aims to create a unified global biopharmaceutical leader by combining the strengths of Biocon’s generics business with Biocon Biologics’ specialised biosimilars portfolio. The move was undertaken to avoid the holding company discount associated with Biocon Biologics and to unlock value. The acquisition was supported by a nearly ₹4,500 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP).

“Growth was led by strong performance in advanced markets and key tender wins across emerging markets. With the integration now complete, we shift gears in FY27 from the ‘Preserve’ phase of our strategy to ‘Consolidate’, as we set up the business for sustainable growth,” said Shreehas Tambe, CEO and Managing Director, Biocon Limited.
