Amazon today announced plans to expand Amazon Now, its quick-commerce service, to customers in over 300 cities across India.

Specifically, Amazon intends on scaling up its specialised fulfilment infrastructure to offer a large selection of products to customers across the country, creating a delivery-in-minutes mechanism.

The visit comes as Amazon sharpens its focus on quick commerce in the country. In April, Amazon had said it planned to roll out the service to 100 cities and build a network of 1,000 stores to support the expansion.

“We are seeing a great response from customers, especially Prime members who triple their shopping frequency once they start using Amazon Now. We have further accelerated our expansion and will offer ultra-fast deliveries to customers in over 300 cities of India,” said Samir Kumar, country manager, Amazon India.

Amazon Now currently has over 500 dark stores and is available in more than 15 metro and non-metro cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Kochi among others. The company intends on scaling its network of micro fulfilment and urban fulfilment centres to house an expanded selection of goods.

Jassy had said during the March quarter earnings call that Amazon Now’s orders are growing 25% month on month and that Prime members triple their shopping frequency once they start using the service.

Recently, Amazon India announced in February that it will invest ₹2,800 crore (about $300 million) to strengthen its infrastructure and operations across the country, with a particular focus on quick commerce. This investment was a part of Amazon’s previously announced commitment to invest $35 billion in India by 2030.

The company also announced ‘Sammaan’, a dedicated program focused on the welfare of the several delivery associates powering its ecommerce and quick commerce business. The initiatives include scholarships for the education of the associates’ children, enabling access to government benefits and financial inclusion programs, comprehensive insurance coverage and more. A portion of Amazon India’s recently announced $300 million investment in operations and associate well-being will go towards strengthening this program.

As part of ‘Sammaan’, Amazon will also expand its Ashray rest centers that are open to any delivery associate in the industry to 250 locations this year.

“It is our promise that as we grow faster, the people powering that speed grow with us, with better health and wellness, education support for their families, and a safer working environment every day.”
