There is no scarcity of petrol and diesel in Andhra Pradesh and some petrol pumps are being closed due to issues in supply and panic buying by the people, N. Manohar, State Minister for civil supplies said on Sunday.
Stating that some agencies and dealers were creating artificial shortages’’ the Minister warned of strict action on those who resort to hoarding and black-marketing of fuel.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who conducted a review on the fuel situation in the State, directed officials to submit a report on closure of some petrol pumps and ensure availability of petrol and diesel.
Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of closure of petrol pumps and the State on Sunday and was enquired about the .shortage. According to official data, out of 4510 petrol pumps in the State, 421 were closed due to depletion of stocks on account of panic buying by the people, the officials informed the Chief Minister.
Even though the supply of petrol and diesel increased by 10 per cent of late, the panic buying was leading to the depletion of the stocks, according to officials. Normally the petrol and diesel sales per day were about 6,330 litres and 9,048 litres respectively. However, the sudden spurt in purchase resulted in the sale of 10,345 petrol and 14,156 litres of diesel, as per the government data.
